SPIRIT WARRIOR: AN AMERICAN ROCK, SOUL OPERA

Ricardo Pitts-Wiley and Robert Schleeter wrote the first version of
Spirit Warrior in 1987, while Pitts-Wiley was artist- in- residence at
the University of Rhode Island. It was a post apocalyptic look at an
America where a powerful dictator, called The Dreamkiller , has
taken over the nation, enslaving the nation’s minds and souls.
His only challenger was a woman called Spirit Warrior.
Over the years, the authors saw the story evolve into one that asks the
Question,
“Is America an idea whose time has passed, or a yet to be fulfilled promise ?”
The show features a 17 song, rock and rhythm score, in which the
great question is debated, lives become entangled, trust is won
and lost, and the search for the spirit and the will to take a
stand is explored.
Featuring Jonathan, Ricardo and Kim Pitts-Wiley, Kim Trusty, Jeannie Carson, Seth Woodruff, and Greg Johnson
